This lesson is written in China, so hello everyone and hope all of you are doing fine. Since FB, Twitter, YouTube and some other sites are not accessable here, I will do a brief updating about my trip before get into our next lesson. Now I am in Xi’an (Terra cotta Warriors and Horses), it is the capital of Shaanxi province, located in the southern part of the Guanzhong Plain, on a flood plain created by the eight surrounding rivers and streams, most of which are too polluted to be used as sources of fresh water.
The urban area of Xi’an is located at latitude 34°14′N, longitude 108°55′E and 412 meters above sea level. It lies in the northwest of China and borders on Qin Mountain to the south and Wei River to the north. It is one of China’s longest inhabited regions, with civilization dating back 6000 years.
In ancient time, Xi’an was always the political centre of China. More than 12 Chinese ancient dynasties set Xi’an as their capital. In Tang Dynasty, lots of emissaries came to Xi’an to learn Chinese culture and industrial technologies. Many Chinese and foreign merchants transported silk, tea and artworks from Xi’an to Western world so Xi’an is the start of Silk Road. Along with Rome and Constantinople, this city was a world leader in culture and trade and played a vital role in bridging the gap between east and west. The city’s capital status lasted for 1,608 years.
My trip is so far so good, I eat a lot of local and home cooked food, very yummy, but the weather here is frezzing cold, windy, rain and snow, when I look at the mirror, I find myself look like panda (wear lots of thick clothes).
The street is crowded, everywhere you go, you see people and you hear the horn, they are busy of getting their final shopping done before the Chinese New Year arrive (14th Feb – the first day of the Chinese new year – Year of the Tiger), yea, it is the same day as Valentine’s Day this year.
The restaruants are fully booked during the new year time. I saw there are lots of new buildings and new road build up (all big ones). And guess what? I discovered a big supermarket – inside there ONLY sell medicines, all different kinds, they have doctors and nurses there to look after the patients as well, the sales girls are trained like machines, when they talk to you, the sentence they speak like copy from the book, so flunt and perfect without a single stop (if you don’t say anything), I saw there no emotions on their face, they just talk, talk and want to push the sale.
Speaking of Chinese New Year, it is the most important Chinese holidays, and it is a time of feasting with the family, celebration, fireworks, and gift-giving. It is a 15-day holiday. It is a time of family reunion. Family members gather at each other’s homes for visits and shared meals, most significantly a feast is on the New Year’s Eve (lot of families will play card and stay up for whole night). During the celebrations, people wear red clothes, the door will decorate with poems on red paper, and give children “lucky money” in red envelopes. Red symbolizes fire, which according to legend can drive away bad luck.The fireworks that shower the festivities are rooted in a similar ancient custom.
I am sure I will have a great time during my stay here and I am looking forward to celebrate the coming up Chinese New Year 2010 with my entire family. It must be fun.
Ok, now back to our lesson of “first genesis to success make money site guide p6_3″. Let’s continuing from our previous lesson. In this lesson, I will show you how to check the transfer took place successfully and to activate the new theme.
To do this, you need to log into the Administration of your WordPress site by typing up the wp-admin login page. You can typing your domain name plus wp-admin into your browser, which in our example would be typing in boxerdogtrainingexpert.com/wp-admin.
Remember that you have already created a username and password in the installation process, that username and password is for you to gain access to the administration area of your WordPress site:
Once you have gained access to the administration area, click on the “Themes’ that under ‘Appearance’ tab at the left-hand corner of your ‘Dashboard’ page to start the process of activating your new theme.
You should be able to see the current theme that your site is using featured at the top of page, together with the new theme that you have just uploaded further down:
If there is a screenshot of how the new theme looks included in the folder that you just uploaded, you will see this screenshot featured on the ‘Manage Themes’ page. In this particular case, because there is no screenshot included, the theme appears to be blank. However, by clicking the theme name link underneath would be the image, you can see an example of how the site will look before deciding whether to activate this particular theme or not.
If you are happy with the theme and want to activate it, click on the link at the top right hand corner to complete the installation.
Here’s the site as it now appears, which looks considerably more like how a site that focuses on training dogs should appear.
There are a few final admin tasks you should complete before starting to populate the site with content.
First, remove the ‘Links’ that appear on the right hand of the page by default. They are not links to your sites and the only people who will benefit from them are the people to whom you are linking, so get rid of them.
You do this by clicking ‘Links’. Check the box next to ‘Name’ (so that they are all removed at once) and finally, hit the ‘Delete’ button.
I would also recommend that in order to improve the functionality of your site and to make it more attractive to the search engines, you should download and install various plugins onto your site.
Plugins are small programs that add additional functionality to WordPress based sites, and as the majority of them are free, there is no reason not to add them to your site. You can see from the WordPress Plugins Directory Page, there are currently over 8240 plugins available.
Once you have downloaded the plugins that you want to install on your site, uploading them to your site, which is pretty much the same as uploading the theme that you installed earlier. Find the unzipped plugin folders on your local machine before clicking and dragging them to the ‘plugins’ folder on your remote server. You locate this from the ‘public_html’ and then the ‘wp-content’ folder.
After that, the next step is to change the ‘Permalinks’ structure of your site. Permalinks is the name given to the unique URL that is attached to every page or post you add to your site, which by default looks something like http://example.com/?p=N. Not only is this a pretty ugly URL, it is also useless as well because it gives no indication to either your human visitors or to the search engines what this particular post or page is all about. Most importantly, it does not include the all-important keyword phrase for which you want to achieve search engine rankings. Thus, using the standard, default URL serves very little purpose.
You should therefore follow these guidance notes for changing the Permalinks to change the Permalink structure of your site. By soing this, you can ensure that the URL which is attached to every content piece you publish is keyword relevant and indicative of what that content is all about.
