The Top 4 Tips for the New Affiliate Novice

Speaking of online career, affiliate marketing is a much-coveted career path in the business of online moneymaking. It is a fairly simple business model, it’s convenient, but it requires affiliates to balance a complex set of techniques. It looks easy and everybody is doing it. But make no mistake: it’s a virtual jungle out there.

Many affiliate newbies believe that it is the cash cow of their dreams that will make them rich overnight, unfortunately it is a misconception, not to mention the overwhelming number of well-established competitors who stand in the way of any newcomer’s success, just by seeing those heavy weight experienced affiliates that current in the market, you know you are swimming against the much bigger fish.

So as a new affiliate, how do you do to against such ill-fated odds? Below are few simple tips you can use and apply into your affiliate marketing business success.

Tip #1: Study Your Competition

Create an email account specially for sign up to those relevant publisher’s newsletters, you can sign up as many as you want, by doing this, you are not only see what kind of deals they are offering to their subscribers, you will also learn the latest trends, products or services they are offering. After that, go to their website, explore it to see what promotional tips you can pick up. The emails that you received give you lots of information in which to let you know what are the markets needs, where the market is moving toward to, the trends etc. You should be offering something similar or better.

Tip #2: Find Your Own Niche Market and Level Your Playing Field

As a new affiliate, or affiliate newbies, on the virtually world, you have no credibility, by that, you will face the challenge of earn lower commissions than what advertisers/merchants are giving better-known and more successful players (some of them do it, offer different level of rate commission to different level of affiliates).

To build up your credibility, you need to find your own niche and work from there up, to some people, the answers may come very easily. And for some of others, it may require a little bit of soul-searching and self-discovery to get there. No matter the niche market you want to go is related to your passions, hobbies, and interests, you should be taking note of.

Identify a niche that serves a hungry market that’s willing to pay to solve a problem or prevent a pain. Identify your market and sneak ahead of your competitors correctly before you go into business is the foundation to build your potential customer base.

Even though many of the people teaching you to build your affiliate marketing business are in what’s referred to as the Internet marketing niche, I don’t recommend entering that niche. One reason is that it’s not really that large a niche. Another reason is that many people seeking to start an online business are seeking to do it as cheaply as possible, so they don’t spend a lot of money. A third reason is that you’ll be competing against entrenched marketers who are came from the offline mail order world, and they understand marketing better than your average person. They are firmly entrenched and it’s difficult to compete directly with
them.

Tip #3: Look for “Low Hanging Fruit”

Rather than promoting random programs, or coupon codes, ask your advertisers for vanity codes that include your affiliate site’s name, like MBA88 rather than 38796. Look for products that offer sufficient profit per item sold through proper market research, and avoid items that only pay a few dollars or a few percent commission (unless the item is used only as a lead generator).

Tip #4: Keep an Eye Out for New Advertisers/Merchants and Build a Relationship with Them

More often than not, the bigger and better affiliates are too busy with long-lasting partnerships to bother fostering new ones. This gives affiliate newbies an opportunity to partner up with new merchants that show potential and have an innovative product, you never know what will come out, one of them might just be the pot of gold you’ve been hoping for. And remember: the earlier you build a relationship with the smaller retailer, the more you will get out of it when they finally succeed.

Finally, when you promote any products, it must also be something that can be delivered cost effectively. That is, it must be something that offers you a sufficient profit margin after ALL of your expenses are paid.
