The Drawbacks To Working At Home

Working at home is one of the fastest growing trends in the career market today, because of this; many people jump on the freelancer bandwagon without considering all of the drawbacks for taking the adventure.

Some people out there are naturally inclined to work at home, but others find the transition more difficult to make. Working at home has many benefits but it also have lots of drawbacks that need to take into consideration before you make the choice.

The first drawback to looking for a work at home career is that the situation of your current career may not be that easy in terms of transfer to a work at home one.

For example, if you are working in the medical field or as a police officer, being a freelancer to working at home might not be an easy thing for you to do unless you willing to change your career entirely, otherwise you have to go through those difficulties in the process of transition. On the other hand, sales and administrative positions can transfer well and easily, as well as those creative jobs, like designing and writing etc.

For those people in the jobs that can’t make a switch to work at home, you’ll have to think carefully about what you want to do when start a new career, you need to have a proper plan in hand and start to investigating the field you want to get in.

Secondly, cost is another important factor in deciding if working at home is right for you or not.

For instance, if you need health insurance, it has to come out of your own pocket instead of being paid by your employers, also, many taxes you have to pay. Thus, keep track of your income and expenses in an effective and systematic way is a must because you need to fill out your income tax return at the end of the year.

In addition, it is not surprising to see many mothers out there are started their working at home job; they want to make money by using their own hand instead of just being a house-wife.

Working at home with children is not always as easy as it seems. If you have young children that aren’t in school yet, it may be difficult to work when they are awake. This can mean you need to spend lots of busy naptimes and late nights to get your projects done when they are sleeping.

Sure, from time being, your family members can help you taking care of your children, but the responsibility of both your children and your job will be firmly in your hands.

Compare with people who have older children, it is might be easier to work from home. But still, in order to get everything done, you will need to start and maintain a fairly balanced schedule as well.

Thirdly, freelancers have to be very self-motivated and disciplined to get their work done correctly and on time. If you are the type of person that is motivated by outside factors (such as need a supervisor beside you), then working from home may not be your cup of tea because there is no one there to look over your shoulder and make sure that you are still working.

Also distractions like the television, Internet and housework can be hindrances to your home business success.

Isolation is another problem for freelancers. By the business itself, working at home alone can easily make people getting frustrated and lonely.

If you are not comfortable with spending time alone, and not be able to take steps to combat isolation, then it is may not be a good idea for you to get into this career. In other words, if you are especially prone to being depressed, then the isolation that comes with working at home can really make you feel withdrawn and sad.

So taking steps to combat loneliness is an important part for any freelancer’s success.

Before you leave here, look into these above factors again, after you done your careful study and consideration, you may decide a working from home job is not right for you. However, there are thousands of people deal with these drawbacks and still have successful work at home careers.

So what I want to you know is that these reasons should not stop you from becoming a freelancer if that is really what you want to do. The things you need to make sure is that to understand the realities of the work at home lifestyle before you committed to it.
