How do you know what people want buy online?
After did some search, I find there are number of sites can help you out, which publishing weekly, monthly, and annual trends; interest comparisons, top lists and market research reports.
If you haven’t try out Google Trend, you should use it from now on. It allows you to type in search phases or keywords to compare the world’s interest in your chosen niche markets.
For example, I entered ‘tea’, ‘coffee’ and ‘drinking water’ and the results surprised me - I discovered some significant different in the interest in coffee (shown in the graphic below).

In addition, eBay Pulse is another niche research site you can use, it shows ebay’s daily snapshot of current trends, hot picks, and cool stuff, listing popular searches, largest stores and most watched items.
Google Zeitgeist shows weekly, monthly, annual trends and patterns based on the millions of searches conducted through Google’s search engine. Zeitgeist by Country is also available on a monthly basis - Google update it every month to get out the results on the changes in each domain. Zeitgeist by Country displays either the top gaining queries in a domain or the most top gaining queries.
If you are interested in the entertainment industry, then Yahoo’s Buzz Index is the market research site you should use. It providing you the most popular searches on a daily basis in the area of actors, actresses, movies, music, sports, TV and video games.
The other tool I like to use is Google Adwords Keyword Tool. It is a free tool and give you reports on advertiser competition, search performance, search volume, seasonal trends etc on the keyword and keyword phrases that you enter into the search box. The statistics you get shows you the relative amount of users searching for that keyword on Google.
For instance, I enter ‘rugs’ and see the following search results comes out.
