Do You Know Why People Buy

The U.S.A president election was over, one incredible lesson I learn from Barak Obama’s 21 month campaign is that his online ability to communicate with everyone who had previously bothered to contact. What I did was to visit his website one day and submit my email address, and from that moment on, he kept me informed every step of the way.

His marketing message was motivational, punchy and well written. He did one simple thing I think every Internet marketer should learn, that is continued to communicate!

What I mean is that if you have a list, then don’t get hold of an email address and let it go cold. Work your list by providing useful, relevant information, tips and then when you do have something to sell you’re more likely to get a positive response.

Too many of us work very hard to build up an email marketing list because we’ve heard that the money is in the list, but the things that we forget are to actually put it to good use by remembering to communicate with our readers.

Obama’s ability to use the Internet for marketing determined his success (sure, it also includes many other factors). What I want to emphasis is that if you’re trying to build your own online business during the recession, then 100% of your success will come down to your online ability. So learn from a master.

Speaking of economy struggling, lots of businesses are now in a down cycle period. That’s why it is more important than ever to understand what makes people buy. I saw many businesses (new and old) are trying to sell their products and services online, well, the results they got are far behind their target and expectations. Internet is a great place or channel for business to market and sell their stuff online; unfortunately many businesses are doing it all wrong.

Today I am going to show you how to sell more.

Before I am going further, I want you ask yourself these questions – if you are a customer, why you buy? If you are sellers, why you think people should buy your products or services instead of competitors?

For me, as I am a customer, every time when I buy something, beside the quality concern, I will also look at features of the products, what are the benefits I will get from buying it, as well as whether the products can solve a problem that I have or not, and how quickly can it solve that problem etc.

Oppositely, sellers should think the same, if you can explain the values, features, benefits of your products clearly to your potential customers, make them ‘believe’ in your offer with great after sale services and support, sooner or later, they will purchase from you. This ‘sales logic’ not only applies to online selling, it also applies for offline business as well.

Think about why do some people buy a BMW or a Mercedes? One of the reasons is because the prestige of owning a luxury car, or their own perceived values drive their decision making. Did you see BMW and Mercedes stress the points in their sales presentation? Yes, they do – they do it deliberately to arouse the desire in potential customers.

See, they understanding people’s emotions, desires and needs. We know in the reality, human purchasing behavior can be much more complicate and unpredictable. I will not going that far here, but I want to share with you this following list, which is the most common reasons towards why people buy:

* To make more money so that you can buy something else they would love to have
* To have fun so that you can have a good time
* To feel good about themselves so that …
* To get a bargain so that …
* To save money so that …
* To save time so that …
* To be like others & have what others have so that …
* To have better than others so that …
* To reduce work or effort so that …
* To be more comfortable so that …
* To get rid of pain so that …
* To learn & satisfy curiosity so that …

Add a “so that …” to the end of each reasons and apply these principles to your product or service. Then ask yourself – do you truly understand what the “so that…” for your product is? Remember, there might be many different “so that’s” for different groups of people (groups like kids, teens, generation Y, gen X, baby-boomers, seniors, male and female etc).

If you see this is the case for you, you shall be thankful because you have more than one market and the opportunity to make more sales.

Once you realize that there is emotion attached to buying, you will understand that how people feel when they are considering a purchase makes a big difference to the likelihood of you making a sale.

If you can tap into these feelings when you advertise your product or service, your chances of making sales will skyrocket.

To help you sell more, I have some super tips for you:

People buy what’s missing in their lives; they buy stuff to solve the problems; they buy from their hearts no matter how much their brain tells them otherwise. People buy to fulfill the film they have going on in their head. People buy products or services that appeal to their own visual, auditory or sensory driven patterns of thoughts.

Before I am ending of this week’s newsletter, here is another thing you need to do to towards sell your products and services online – you need to write your online sales letter, in the other words, you need have an effective advertising into the place, which begins and ends with a message that puts the desires of the potential customer ahead of the desires of you own (advertiser).

If you want to save time, this Collection can help you indeed.

You can use these sales letters in any direct response media format; like direct mail, email, web content (landing pages, squeeze pages, free reports, etc.), voice broadcasting, newspaper ads, magazine ads, and postcards – even radio or TV and so forth.

To your marketing success :-)

Till next week.

Cheers
