Recently, MasterCardWorldwide did a study on Internet users in Thailand; it reveals that 80 per cent of the respondents have been using the internet on a daily basis.
The study involved 501 Thais aged between 18 and 64 years with a personal income of 781,000 baht (22,000 US dollars) per year, or 22,329.50 baht (629 US dollars) a month.
Among the respondents, 92 per cent of those used the internet for sending and receiving emails, 80 per cent for reading news, and 73 per cent for educational or work purposes, 70 per cent for entertainment, 60 per cent for chatting with friends and 43 per cent for shopping online.
Beside this study, the company also made a study on 5,037 online shoppers in 10 countries – Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa and Thailand.
Apart from South Korea, the study shows that people in Singapore and Hong Kong who would like to shop online raised from 66 per cent in 2008 to 69 per cent this year. The popularity of online shopping had increased despite the economic slump mainly due to its convenience.
