Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams

October 29, 2007 | Written by annliu | Filed Under Personal

Almost all of us have childhood dreams: for example, being an astronaut, or making movies or games for a living. Sadly, most people don’t achieve theirs, and I think that’s a shame. I had several specific childhood dreams, and I’ve actually achieved most of them. More importantly, I have found ways, in particular the creation (with Don Marinelli), of CMU’s Entertainment Technology Center (etc.cmu.edu), of helping many young people actually *achieve* their childhood dreams …

Above these are came from Professor , who giving a ‘last lecture’ before a packed house at Carnegie Mellon University on September 18, 2007.

His talk entitled “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams,” - He discussed his lessons learned and shared advice with the attendees on how to achieve their own career and personal goals during the talk.

The talk is apparently a common theme for college lecture series, in which professors deliver a hypothetical final talk about what they’ve learned and want most to impart to others..

But for Dr. Randy Paush - his talk wasn’t hypothetical, and he is dying of pancreatic cancer.

This afternoon I came across this online , seriously, if you do nothing else today, watch this . It is brilliant, inspirational and to the point.

He discussed how he achieved his childhood dreams (being in zero gravity, designing theme park rides for Disney, and a few others), and also contain realistic advice on how *you* can live your life so that you can make your childhood dreams come true, too.

The YouTube version posted below is just about 10 minutes in length. If you would like to see the whole lecture (1 hr. 44 mins), it is available here on Google Video. And also you can download and read this full Transcript

So take some special notes of what Dr. Paush says when you watch the online or read transcript … it should give you insight into how to achieving your childhood dreams.
