While most publishers are scrambling to find their place in social media, Facebook is quickly perfecting performance marketing techniques that have the potential of reshaping online advertising on a scale unseen since the rise of search engine optimization.

Just four years old, but already pushing 800 pounds, the gorilla of social networking is romping through the performance marketing jungle like it owns the place. It doesn’t – at least, not yet – but its recent momentum is reminiscent of the rise of Google five years ago when Yahoo still seemed to have an iron grip on the search market. It becomes problematic,” she says. But if you target the audience by commonalities, as Facebook does, then “the affiliate marketing machine has to compete with plain, old-fashioned behavioral targeting. The affiliate CPA [cost per action] model is often the black sheep of the marketing family, largely because networks can’t monetize it as well. Networks like CPM deals better because they’re money in the bank. The problem with a lot of CPA programs is the risk has shifted from the advertisers to the content producer.” …. They said 2009 – 2010 is the year for the rich super affiliates to get richer, average affiliates are going back to the dreaded “Paycheck to Paycheck” 9-5 jobs!

If you have been in the affiliate marketing business for any length of time, you may already know to achieve certain level of success in this type of business is not easy at all (I have to admit that). Because the nature structure of the business, you can easily get in but it takes hard work to see the real results.

Due to individuals different, each affiliate marketer is facing different difficulties (more or less). So far as I know, the hardest part and the most important part in the affiliate marketing business is how to get your merchant’s link in front of well-targeted eyes, figure out cost-effective ways to achieve that is the sticking point for a lot of affiliates.

Follow by is finding the right program to promote, in the other words, you need to find a relatively uncompetitive niche which nevertheless has a large enough number of programs and high potential amounts of traffic for long-term sustainability. The programs can vary in the way they convert on your site, and then is the placement on the page and any pre-qualifying and pre-selling you do. This can have an effect on results toward the results you expected to get.

I think once you have found that niche, which I called the 1% inspiration, and then from there onwards, the rest is just all about writing content, the 99% perspiration. To do all the research and writing is time consuming, long and slow, but after time being you will find it is worth of doing that.

Just for the record, it took me my first six months to experiment and development my site before I stumbled across what the site’s targeted niche should be.
