WordPress Version 2.5

April 20, 2008 | Written by annliu | Filed Under Alert & Opinion & News

After spent two weeks vacation in China, finally I get back - I feel so good be back to my own place :-)

There are more than 3,000 emails sit in my inbox and waiting for me to clean … Huh!!

After got those stuff sort out, the first thing I did is upgraded my site to version 2.5. WP 2.5 was officially released on March 29th, in that time, I wasn’t brave enough to test the beta version because the new 2.5 release hasn’t shows up in , and I don’t want to screw up the things by using manual installation. So I wait until now it shows up.

It only take me few second do the upgrade through cPanel and that hosted by Kiosk, and have never had a problem.

Before I click on the upgrade button, I back up my entire database, then revert to the default theme and de-activate all my plugins. Once the update has been completely installed, I change back to my current theme and re-activate the plugins one-by-one, making sure everything works as it should.

If you haven’t update your version, I highly recommended you do it now. I love this WP 2.5 version, there are so many new, cool features and improvements added, with the new 2.5 version, you can do multi-file uploading, one-click plugin upgrades, built-in galleries, customizable dashboard, salted passwords and cookie encryption, media library, a WYSIWYG that doesn’t mess with your code, concurrent post editing protection, full-screen writing, and search that covers posts and pages.

If you hosting service provider has function and if you haven’t do the upgrading, do it now. It is really easy and only take you few seconds.

In case, if there something happen, such as ending up with a ‘bunch of weird characters’ (or worse), don’t worry, there are detailed instructions on the Codex about how to do a backup and upgrade your installation manually.
